BSI tightens requirements for email security solutions

The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) is devoting increased attention to the topic of e-mail security and is publishing much more detailed recommendations and guidelines.

The German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) recently tightened the requirements for email security solutions. In view of the increasing threats associated with emails, this is an important measure to improve the security of companies and organisations.

The BSI attaches great importance to protection against spam, malware and phishing attacks. Email security solutions must be able to recognise and block spam emails, identify malicious attachments or links and detect phishing emails. This is crucial to protect users from fraudulent messages and malicious content

The BSI also emphasises the importance of encrypting sensitive information in emails. A good email security solution should offer the option of encrypting emails to ensure that only authorised persons have access to the content. This is particularly important to ensure the protection of confidential data.

The BSI also requires functions for identifying and monitoring sensitive information in emails to ensure protection against data loss. A comprehensive email security solution should be able to prevent unauthorised access or accidental disclosure of sensitive information.

The new BSI requirements also emphasise the need for a simple and intuitive user interface for the implementation and management of email security solutions. This should minimise the administrative effort and ensure that the solution can be used effectively.

Finally, seamless integration with other security solutions such as firewalls, endpoint protection and SIEM systems is recommended. This enables a comprehensive security strategy and improves protection against email-based threats.

By tightening the requirements, the BSI is helping to ensure that companies and organisations implement effective email security solutions to protect their systems and data from the increasing threats. It is advisable to familiarise yourself with the BSI's specific requirements and take them into account when selecting and implementing email security solutions.
